„The works are accomplished by themselves, through their own will. They are lazy. This explains why we have to push them. But where, in which direction? They are capricious and stubborn, like a child, like a dog pulling in an unknown direction [...]“

Alexei Kamensky’s debuting monograph was first released in 2003.
After his studies at the Surikov Institute in Moscow, the painter needed a long time to «free himself» from student life and to successfully find his own artistic style.
This record pictures a manifold and exhaustive development of the artist. Emphasis is placed on all stages of his repertoire, ranging from the objective to the more abstract.
Starting with the circus-series revealing his ardour for the circus, continuing with a mysterious voyage to Central Asia displaying women at the bazaar, the joyful pastels of the Crimea-series and soft watercolours depicting a Northern Russia scenery, the volume culminates in abstract oils which date back to the nineties.
